  1. Cpl H. Taylor India Company, BLT 3/1 FPO San Diego, CA 92102 Katie, I know you've been anxious beyond belief watching the news to see what's going on in Cordocas. I expect it'll be a few days before any solid facts get reported, if any manage to filter through the confusion and spin. Don't worry yourself too much though, I've been scared shitless and run around this island so fast I can't get my balance, but I'm doing OK and we're hitting the bad guys hard. I can't really talk about where we've been exactly, but in the last 12 hours we've been thrown into one end of the island, relieved, pulled out, and chucked headlong into the other end of it. We're all tired as hell and we've lost enough people who had to go home that my platoon got rolled into another one. It's all confusing, but the guys I'm with are the best in the friggin business, and they're all die-hard devil dogs I'm honored to be working for. It's crazy, I've been so busy yelling into the radio that I've hardly had time to even screw around with anyone (you know that's my comfort zone), but I still feel like I know even the newest replacements in our ranks like they're my gross little brothers. And I mean gross. As much as I try to lighten it up, it's been a difficult day. We had a whole squad get recalled stateside literally as this whole operations started (plus a bunch of other veterans, giants in this battalion who I respected so much), and that really pushed morale down- I've been running into a lot of sad marines, and a sad marine in a firefight is a terrible danger for the rest of us. I've had some close calls too. One of our AAVs, those big slab-sided floating spam cans on tracks, got nailed by a TOW missile earlier. The noise was tremendous, and I think all of our pants turned to brown-on-brown MARPAT in an instant. I torpedoed out of that thing before anyone else even grabbed their rifles though, and we all somehow made it out OK, if a little moist. Scared me half to death, but in a way it was almost routine for us - we pushed on on foot, and took an objective we didn't even expect to take. Like I said, these guys are miracle workers, right from the godlike guys in MEU HQ on down to Pvt Greaseball. Anyway, I gotta wrap this up - I was glad I had a minute to scribble before we get shoved into another mess and told to untie it, but it doesn't last long. We're moving fast, and that's a huge advantage. I'll see you soon, and please, please don't worry too much about me. I'm clumsy, it's true, but I'm pretty friggin spry for a guy with 15 pounds of just radio hardware alone on his back (never mind all the other stuff, I never seem to use it but it's there, all 60ish lbs of it). At this rate, it won't be long till you're poking me in the ribs so you can steal the blankets again. I love you, and I'll see you real soon. -H
  2. The worst you'll get out of that is the laptop running slow or not starting due to an overdraw. You've basically just constructed an inline UPS, which should be fine. The thing with the wattage is that to get that power output, your transformer is stepping 12V up to 19V and producing a certain amperage. Plug that into P=VI (I = 90/19) and you get an output current from the power supply of 4.7 amps. Do the same with the expected wattage (I = 120/19) and EXPECTED input current for the laptop is 6.3 amps. A significant overvolt may kill receiving hardware. An overdraw of current at the receiving end will kill things in the middle if there's enough voltage (like water pressure) to push it. An overdraw of current at the receiving end will only under-power the receiving end if there's not enough voltage to sustain the draw. The voltage will suddenly drop and the equipment will turn off or dip in performance. A power supply capable of producing more than expected current will not generally (lets not get stupidly specific) harm receiving hardware if the voltages are about equal. This is why people will put 600W power supplies in computers that will only use 300-400W - it's like a safety net for when your computer is drawing max power so it doesn't cause a voltage drop and kill the computer. So if you can get a power supply that'll go 12V to 19V at 120W or more, you'll be in much better hands. 90 might work, but the computer may fail to remain powered or may perform like crap. A supply with an output of 19V @ 120/150W will ensure power to the laptop.... just make sure you're not overdrawing the battery or putting too much through the supply. If you have a meter, check for significant voltage drop at the battery when the laptop is turned on, and be wary of the supply getting too hot. If it does, remove the equipment. I don't anticipate you overdrawing the car battery... but again, temperature is your indicator. If stuff starts getting hot, watch out. Some of this may be poorly worded, but the radio systems I work on have inline UPSs EVERYWHERE, so we get pretty familiar with their operation. Also, this is what I thought of from the thread title:
  3. That shot with all the guys standing right near the trap area.... makes me cringe thinking about a cable snap.
  4. [Quoted from old forums by Cpl(Ret) Maslofski]: Teamspeak 3 Skins This is a simple teamspeak 3 skin based on the 15TH MEUs websites colors (the actual reason is of course that i disliked all other dark themes so i made my own, and why not 15th meu skinned, right?). Desert MARPAT Preview Standart - v1.3 Preview Alternative chat - v1.3 Woodland MARPAT Preview Standart - v1.0 Preview Alternative chat - v1.1 Known issues: -Hyperlink colors are hardcoded trought your windows, preset at dark blue. -Friends are not represented in green, this is because the TS3 devs did not implement this feature into the costum configs, so its imposible and theyll have to fix it. Firefox Theme Thanks to LCpl Bleggi, i now had to have a browser skin, but i dont use Chrome, so i made my own ones. Right now im making the variations, but im using a 1360x768 display, so later on ill switch to 1080 to check ive they still work, or ill have to make multiple versions. Since Firefox has this feature im just going to put them in this Collection, ive the resolutions mess it up ill make dedicated Collections for those. Collection link Assistance and Costum requests Ive you find a bug, a software update messed it up, a link is down, you need help or want something costumized (TS3 font colors, diferent Firefox Theme variations, etc.) just send me a PM on the forums, hit me up on Teamspeak or hack me and leave a text file on my desktop.
  5. Rare Sighting: The Penny Sloth released from captivity, standing perfectly still in its usual method of avoiding notice.
  6. I also have this issue and have had it since TFAR 0.9.12. my only solution is to take my TS master volume from its usual +4 or +5dB all the way up to +13dB (nearly a TWENTY times increase over base gain) when I get in game and TFAR activates. Unfortunately the downside of this is that I get severe ear pain if someone sniffles on global.
  7. Figured I'd drop a place for pubs and members to see stream links to various perspectives being broadcast during Joint Tiger today and tomorrow. I'll start off: https://gaming.youtube.com/channel/UCqnfGHyBGzaDbjZwy3z_CzA/live I'll be Archer 1-1-A now until 0100. Might be on tomorrow evening for the conclusion if able.
