Hey O'Mally,
Needless to say, a lot has happened over this first deployment. They definitely didn't tell me in SOI that I'd have to deal with people shooting at me and snakes. For future reference, jungles suck.
On the bright side, even though I haven't been here long, I've made some good friends. When I get back, you're going to have to meet some of them. A lot of them are absolutely nuts.
Charlie Team is probably the most laid back. Rothe knows his stuff and is kind of a nerd—you two would probably get along pretty well. Guns and guitars are common interests for both of you. Bridger doesn't talk much, but he's a solid guy. Angulo is pretty new, but he's finding his footing. He's also surprisingly competent and has a talent for removing the enemy from what they think are "safe" spaces.
The guys from Bravo—Kleefisch, Shackleford, and Probst—have proudly dubbed themselves "The Old Bastards." To be fair, it's pretty accurate. They're all a little crazy in their own way. Probst, our resident German, has a knack for anything tech-related and is a pretty chill guy. I'm still confused as hell how he ended up here from Zanzibar. Fish and Shack are the old guys who somehow do more than just keep up—they're usually right in the thick of it.
Alpha is... well, Alpha.
Lyman, the poor soul, has the newer guys: Scusa and Cissna. Lyman is pretty laid back, while Scusa has the attention span of puppy at a dog park. He knows way more than you’d first expect. Cissna is still finding his footing, but he's a chill dude and easy to get along with.
And I can't forget the guys who have to deal with all of us goofballs—Adams and Prochniak. I've got to give them credit for putting up with us.
Proch is basically just you if you ate a lot more cheese and were from Wisconsin.
I've also discovered that Adams has a strange fascination with testing gravity, as if it hasn't already proven itself every time we have to haul all our gear three clicks to an OBJ. Most recently, he found a ladder to help with his experiment. The result? A broken foot. Unfortunately, any income he was making from selling feet pics is on hold for the foreseeable future. The silver lining is that his Clash of Clans career should remain completely uninterrupted while he recovers.
That's about all I've got for now. Keep me updated on how things are back home.
Dodging bullets and snakes,
Bagel
