Members & Visitors to our forum It has been a time honored tradition that during the deployment cycle the troops of the 15th MEU Realism Unit write letters to loved ones detailing missions, activities and thoughts as if they were away from home for the 6-7 months of a typical MEU deployment. This helps with the immersion of the deployment cycle and has, at times, been very humorous for members and at times very realistic as they sometimes reflect actual content of letters written from real service members when they were deployed into harms way. These letters have, over the last few deployments been posted in the more public area of our forum to allow the casual visitor the chance to get a glimpse of what goes on in a realism unit of our size during the deployment cycle. This thread will be the "Post Office" for our deployment which will begin later this week. ORIENTATION: After Stingray 2’s successful delaying action at Hill 881 North and the unfortunate high casualty rate of Stingray 1, the North Vietnamese Army (NVA) have fully retreated and have not sent out a full attack on any outposts in Khe Sanh since. There has been a lull in full scale attacks for almost a month now and so, Stingray 3 of Bravo Company has been tasked with patrolling the area south of Khe Sanh Base towards Khe Sanh Village. They are to test the strength of NVA forces within the area and as such search and destroy any enemy forces that are encountered. MISSION: LOCATION: Khe Sanh DATE: February 25, 1968 TIME: 0540L UNIT: 3rd Platoon, Bravo Company, 1st Battalion, 26th Marine Regiment It is the mission of 3rd Platoon, Bravo Company to set foot south of Khe Sanh Base and patrol along the marked path towards Khe Sanh Village to test the NVA forces within the area. A detachment of UH-1Ds, M113s, and an A-7C have been assigned to support 3rd platoon in their operation. ENEMY FORCES: INTEL ACCURACY - 2/10 Enemy forces are located south of Khe Sanh Base: X1 NVA Infantry Platoon - 304th Division, 66th Regiment Foliage is dense in the area with minimal visibility. FRIENDLY FORCES: X1 Infantry Platoon - (Stingray 3) X2 UH-1D - Standby at Khe Sanh Air Base (Shadows 1-1 + 1-2) X1 A-7C Corsair - Standby at Khe Sanh Air Base (Harley 1-1) X3 M113/M2s - Standby at Khe Sanh Air Base for Reinsert (Green Dragon 1-1 + 1-2 + 1-3) X3 105mm Howitzers - Standby at Khe Sanh Air Base (Slammer) RULES OF ENGAGEMENT: Do not engage unless hostile intent is shown. Anyone pointing a weapon at you is hostile. Civilians are in the AO. Civilian infrastructure damage is to be avoided but the lives of friendlies is a priority. CASEVAC + REINSERTS + RESUPPLY: Casevac will be under the discretion of the platoon corpsman in charge. If needed, ensure LZ is safe for pilots and notify your JTAC ASAP. Green Dragon can also be used for Casevac if needed. Reinsert plan will be conducted via Green Dragon 1-1, 1-2, and 1-3 or Shadows 1-1 and 1-2 if possible. Resupply will be conducted via Shadows 1-1 and 1-2 or Green Dragon.
