"Public Action" Concept Thread (and photo archive) Concept borrowed from 3 Commando Brigade (UK Royal Marines) - Thank you! The public action concept is a low-prep public engagement mission structured around existing operations-in-progress on the unit public server. The concept operates in this way: The server is refreshed a short time before step-off, and the person leading the public action organizes attendees at the slot-in screen into an appropriate unit structure modeled on our own (scaled to the number attending) including volunteer element leaders (preferably unit members). All participants push through together, and are directed to kit as their selected billet. Plans for assault are developed during this phase, and briefed to participants after everyone is kitted up. The plan is executed with participants operating according to the way the 15th MEU conducts operations, for somewhere between 1-2 hours (dependent on objective timing). The server is then reset again to clean it up and allow people to go back to normal unorganized operations. I believe this concept will serve as a demo of the 15th MEU's capabilities for the public, and will be a good way to draw in membership through higher server numbers and good professional gameplay. It also requires minimal preparation by leaders, no mission-building, and little confusion with signups or confusion beforehand. I intend to test this concept once or twice before putting it forward for stand-up, and would greatly appreciate feedback either in this thread or in direct messages. H. Taylor1 point

PUBLIC ACTION SIGNUP Saturday 24 April 2021 - 1400 CST Public actions are open to all players both public and members, and are expected to last 1-2 hours. These events will usually be scheduled weekly. The next public action after this is currently TBD. SIGNUPS Everyone attending is encouraged to sign up saying "[Name] will be attending", so we can estimate numbers. As more people sign up (especially general "attending" signups), more sign-up spots will be opened. Sign-up leadership positions below must be 15th MEU members whenever possible. Qualified 15th MEU members will be given precedence for specialist roles. 1st Platoon Leader: Sgt Q. Robertson JTAC: CLOSED 1-1 Squad Leader: Sgt R. D. Martin 1-1 Squad Corpsman: HN R. Wayne 1-1-A Team Leader: LCpl Kregdale 1-1-B Team Leader: LCpl Hassinger 1-1-C Team Leader: Cpl Z. Hill 4-1-1-A Machine Gun Team Leader: Open Lead Armor Crew: CLOSED Armor Crew: CLOSED Lead Pilot: 2nd Lt C. James Pilot: CLOSED INFORMATION - FAQ Q: What is a Public Action? A public action is a small public event hosted by the unit open to all comers including public visitors. Public Actions are conducted on the same mission the Public Server is already running, and missions are planned on-the-fly by the signed up event leader as the event begins. By organizing, kitting out, and operating in the way the 15th MEU actually does in operations, these events provide the public with an opportunity to see our skills and participate in organized combat activity. Q: What do you mean "organizing", can't I just grab a rifle and go? Public actions showcase the coordination, tactics, and skills of the unit. We ask that everyone participating fills a required role as directed by the event leader, and operates with their group the same way our e-Marines do. Q: But I always play as US Army and carry a sniper rifle and Javelin, can't I do that? Public actions also show the cooperation and power of a properly equipped Marine unit. We ask that everyone participating uses the weapons and gear that would be used by the role they are filling. After the event is done, you can load out to your heart's content. Q: What's the plan, do we know ahead of time? No pre-plan is done for Public Actions, as they continue with the tasks of the current Public Server mission. As everyone loads in, the event leader comes up with a plan, briefs the group, and puts it in motion. Q: Won't this bog down the server? Public actions begin with the mission being refreshed on the server, and end with either a refresh or (when able) a hard server restart. After it's done, everything is fresh and clear. @H. Freeman Please take the last few months into account when you choose to violate our server rules. Team-killing and Friendly Fire is our #1 rule and it is followed to a T. Your actions were completely unacceptable and our standards for our community are much higher than that. Friendly fire is never acceptable under any circumstances and is punishable with a ban without warning. Any further rules that you break will lead to a permanent, irreversible, ban from our servers. I hope you understand and wrap your mind around our policies and follow them without fault from here on out. Your ban will be lifted sometime soon when the server can be reset. I highly suggest you familiarize yourself with our server rules before you connect next time. Second chances are rare, third chances never happen.1 point

Greetings All, I just wanted to take a quick moment to say that I am absolutely amazed that the 15th is alive and well. Sorry, maybe I should introduce myself... My name is Patrick Tigernan, the first Sergeant Major of the 15th MEU Realism Unit. To give you a frame of reference, my 15th ID number is 15M005... yup, we didn't even have four digits after the 15M back then. We never thought we would ever need it. And when I say I am amazed at the 15ths survival, I just mean that in the grand scheme of gaming units... a couple of years is a long time for a unit to survive, but over fourteen years... that is a rarity indeed. But here I am, fourteen years later, looking at a Teamspeak and Discord full of people. Of course I only recognize two names; Master Guns Reite and Colonel Saarema. The 15th hasn't just survived but it has thrived. I am sure it has had it's ups and downs, that is the nature of gaming communities, but to still be going strong after all these years is just amazing to me. In 2007, when I was asked to be an advisor to Savage and Schultz, I never could have imagined that the unit would still be alive over a decade later. In the three years I was with the 15th I watched it's numbers grow then fall, then grow again. I spent coutnless hours creating researching real world documents to create unit training documents and policies. I used to make missions by hand, and taught hundreds of boring Unit Orientations. I used to tell people, "You get as much out of the 15th as you put into it." And man, the people that have put into the 15th... I saw someone had an ID number over 3300+... that is just amazing to me. Over 3,300 people have joined the 15th MEU Realism Unit. Do you realize that is more then the number of actual Marines in a typical MEU! I believe a MEU numbers around 2500 Marines and sailors. I used to tell people that there is not one person that is so essential to the survival of the 15th, that as long as one person keeps the faith and wears the [15th] tag, the unit would survive. But I could have never seen this. Now, don't get me wrong, after saying that no one person was critical to the unit, I would follow that up with, "The 15th succeeds or fails based on it's members. Each and every one of you. When you show up to trainings and events, you keep the heart beat of the unit going. So it may be true that no one person is essential... but everyone is important to the unit's success." But enough of me ranting... something I used to do often as the Sergeant Major. I'll be hanging around the Teamspeak and Discord, just to watch and learn about the new 15th. But man it brings back some memories. Like having a rifle range qualification built in ArmA 1... that some people who didn't have good graphics cards couldn't even see the targets at the 500 yard line. Or building missions where the AI would do some crazy things and there was nothing you could do about it, cause there wasn't a real time editor (MCC didn't come until much later, and Zeus wasn't even thought of). But I digress. Thank you. Thank you to all that have worn the uniform of a 15th MEU virtual Marine or sailor. Thank you to every person that has stepped up to be a leader over the years, to take on the responsibility of command, even in a virtual unit is still daunting. Thank you to everyone who picked up a virtual weapon and fought as a rifleman or automatic rifleman, you are the back bone of the unit. It does an old man proud to see the success of the unit. Respectfully Submitted, Patrick Tigernan SgtMaj(Ret)0 points
