About Command Staff

  1. Proposals

Proposals can - and should - be submitted using the new form linked at the end of this post. This form will have everything: The date of submission, a field for the full proposal, a field for pros and cons, a field for links, and co-writers. This form will be posted to a subforum that all Platoon HQ and above members can see, where it will then be closely monitored by the entire Chain of Command from there up.Proposals, after being submitted, will be assigned to a group within 3 days. Any proposal that doesn't need to be dealt with by Command Staff (major changes) will be dealt with by their sections: ex. Infantry-only proposals (ex. removal of all M249s from Rifle Platoon use) will be assigned to, and dealt with, by the company HQs.After being assigned the proposal with have a further 4-6 days (totaling 1 week from submission to this point) to be deliberated and decided on. That decision can be a denial, approval, needs more time, or pushed up to higher HQ. Regardless of the outcome, at the end of that week communication must be given to the person who submitted the proposal as to what is going on with it. (Note: If after 1 week you have not heard back, you NEED to contact your Platoon HQ and check on it). Any approval or denial will be denoted on the post containing the proposal so that all Platoon HQ and above can see it and know the outcome, in case communication fails and someone needs to seek their Platoon HQ. It will also be denoted when the person who submitted the proposal has been informed of the result. This will, hopefully, provide a better way for proposals to go through the unit and actually be received, instead of people never hearing about them because they got lost, didn't submit them, or was never communicated back to, and thus people believing we don't actually care what you think. Because we do. Proposal Form
  2. Officer Academy

Office Academy Application 15th Officer Academy Purpose The 15th Officer Academy is the system through which new officers are screened and selected. The system includes an Application Phase, an Interview and Approval Phase, a Candidate Training and Awaiting Phase, and a Final Selection and Approval Phase. The system utilizes an Officer Academy Shortlist, which is limited to a maximum of 5 positions at any given time. When an open officer position is filled, a vacancy will be created on the shortlist. From time-to-time a selection process will occur to attempt to fill the position that has opened. A minimum of 48 Hours notice will be given before the start of a selection process in order to allow an last-minute applications or updates. Officer Positions filled through the Officer Academy: Rifle Platoon Commander Weapons Platoon Commander Tank Platoon Commander AAV Platoon Commander LED Commanding Officer Application Process When the selection process begins, all applications submitted within the last 3 months are reviewed. This means if you submit an application that is more than 3 months old, you must either send MEU HQ a PM stating you wish to renew your existing application, or you may submit a new application. If you wish to update your application to reflect new positions you have obtained, etc., you may submit a new application. Do not spam applications (i.e. more than 1 per 2-3 months). Applicants must meet the following requirements, both at the time of filing an application and at the time of selection: Minimum rank of LCpl Active duty for the past 30 days Minimum age of 18 No major disciplinary actions within the last 6 months (Formal Disciplinary Actions, probation, major NJPs) Must have completed all NCO Courses Interview and Approval Phase After the 48 hours notice is concluded, all applications will be reviewed by MEU HQ. A selection of the applicants will be made, and these applicants will be given an interview. Upon the selection of a candidate by MEU HQ, Command Staff will approve or deny the selection. If selected, the candidate (and only the candidate) will be informed of their acceptance to the Academy and their position on the Officer Shortlist. Candidate Training and Awaiting Phase Once on the Officer Shortlist, the candidate will remain in their current billet and maintain their current rank (in other words, they continue as though everything is normal). The candidate must complete The Basic School within 60 days of selection, as well as the forthcoming SNCO Academy (to be announced soon). They will not be considered for an officer position until they have completed the training (unless no other candidates have completed training). During their time in the Awaiting Phase, candidates are required to attend and observe (sit quietly, unless current billet allows for participation) at least 1 Op/FTX planning meeting per month. They may not transfer to reserves (or to a collateral duty billet as full-time), and they are expected to have no disciplinary issues. Any disciplinary actions will result in a review by MEU HQ to determine if they should remain on the shortlist. A candidate may choose to be removed from the shortlist at any time by sending a PM stating so to MEU HQ. Final Selection and Approval Phase When a position opens on the shortlist, all current members of the shortlist will be moved up (if possible). When an officer position becomes available, the HQ above the vacancy (Company HQ for infantry, MEU HQ for supporting assets) will review (and possibly interview) the candidate in the #1 position. If they wish to pass on the candidate, they may (with valid reason); at which time they will review the #2 candidate. Again, they may pass on the candidate. If they pass on all valid candidates, an offer must be made to the #1 candidate. The HQ may not back-track to a previous candidate (i.e. review #3 then jump back to #2). Once a selection is made, the candidate's name is sent to Command Staff for final approval, and then the candidate is Offered the position. Once Offered, the candidate may choose to either accept or decline the position. The candidate may only decline 2 positions offered. If the candidate declines a third, they are immediately removed from the shortlist. If all valid candidates decline a position, MEU HQ and Command Staff will take proper action to fill the vacancy ASAP. Upon acceptance, the candidate will be commissioned as a Second Lieutenant and be re-assigned to their new section.
  3. Do Not Post Political or Religious Threads

Posting of NEWS is not the same as a political or religious thread. What is meant by Political and Religious are threads/discussions about political or religious views. Let's put it this way: Okay to post- "The Government has issued a new hand-gun law requiring..." (But DO NOT go into YOUR VIEWS/REPLY WITH YOUR VIEWS on the matter) "The Vatican has officially supported evolution today"(But DO NOT go into YOUR VIEWS/REPLY WITH YOUR VIEWS on the matter) "Presidential Candidate John Doe went to Antarctica to personally defend the whales from Japanese Whalers"(But DO NOT go into YOUR VIEWS/REPLY WITH YOUR VIEWS on the matter) "Remember, National Elections are coming up in X days. Don't care who you vote for, just Go Vote!" Do not post- "Hey guys, what do you think about gun control?" "I think evolution exists; what do you think?" "John Doe is the Purple Candidate" (reason being this is a strictly partisan story and will spur nothing but political discussion) "You should vote for..." There is a difference between what is news and factual, and what is political/religious views. EVERYTHING that happens has some form of ties to either religion or politics; that does NOT make it a political/religious thread. This thread is about what the US government is doing. Is it political in the sense that it is coming from Washington, yes. But it is not political in that it is an attempt to stir a partisan debate; it's a report of what is actually happening. TLDR: If you don't understand what the rule means, STOP TRYING TO ENFORCE IT.
  4. These are not my words, but they are words that I, along with most if not all 15th members in a leadership billet will and should enforce.
  5. Command Staff: Who They Are and What They Do

Over the past few years the understanding of who and what Command Staff is and what they do has slowly ebbed away. These days many members may not even know Command Staff exists, much less how they operate. This will, hopefully, bring light to the Command Staff of the 15th MEU (SOC) Realism Unit. The Command Staff is the legislative/governing body of this unit. They are the ones who approve/deny/change all policies throughout the unit. Everything from the change from the M16 to the M4, to the opening and closing of sections throughout the unit, are decided by Command Staff. These decisions are fully discussed and voted on by the members of the Command Staff during their weekly Sunday meetings. Generally speaking, Command Staff members discussed issues they have noticed themselves, or have received through the Chain of Command. They cannot, however, discuss things they are not aware of. This is why the Chain of Command is so important, because it will almost always reach Command Staff to be discussed when the Chain of Command is used properly. Most decisions are approved by a simple majority of the Command Staff. However in most cases an issue will not be put to rest until a near unanimous decision has been made, because at any point the discussion can be brought back up to the table. I, personally, try to include all concerns into any decision we eventually reach so as to satisfy as many parties as possible.Command Staff members are decided in two ways. The first way, which is the original way, is simple invitation to long-standing, respected members of the unit who the rest of Command Staff feels can provide a voice to the decision making of the unit. The second way is based upon billet: MEU HQ, Company Commanders, the ACE CO, the FORECON CO, and the senior of the platoon commanders of the GCE Supporting Elements, will all be invited to Command Staff after they are cemented into their position. All of these except MEU HQ members are removed from Command Staff once they have left that billet (MEU HQ members retain Command Staff status throughout their career, if they ever choose to transfer from MEU HQ).Over the years we have had many respected and wise men sit in the seats of Command Staff. This list will be maintained as a record of those who are on Command Staff for public knowledge.Current MembersColonel Penny (MEU CO)Lieutenant Colonel Alexander, M.
