Deployment Cycle 2025 - Letters from the Front

Recommended Posts

Members & Visitors to our forum

It has been a time honored tradition that during the deployment cycle the troops of the 15th MEU Realism Unit write letters to loved ones detailing missions, activities and thoughts as if they were away from home for the 6-7 months of a typical MEU deployment. This helps with the immersion of the deployment cycle and has, at times, been very humorous for members and at times very realistic as they sometimes reflect actual content of letters written from real service members when they were deployed into harms way.

These letters have, over the last few deployments been posted in the more public area of our forum to allow the casual visitor the chance to get a glimpse of what goes on in a realism unit of our size during the deployment cycle. This thread will be the "Post Office" for our deployment.

I wanted to start this up again to let anyone express their creative writing skills to the best of their ability and allow for the immersion and story-building to follow us through our deployment cycle.

Father,

we have been several hours in country and have met the enemy. eastern europe is a lot like the forests we used to walk in during the summers, when we lived in the blue house. I hope you and ma are doing well, if baby sister still struggles with her essays remind her that the good reading to writing ratio is four to one, four pages of reading material equals one page of written synapsis.

we destroyed a garrison in a small village, after the fight I toured one of the houses and found small tobacco pipe. I know you have all but given up on pipe smoking, but I find it comforting reminding me of our long talks into the evening in the sun room. I hope mom has been able to scrub the yellow off the walls. I love you, I will write again.

Your son

Missy,

I didn't get the chance you write you this letter before we shipped out, for that I am deeply sorry. We didn't leave off on the best of terms before I left and that's not how I wanted our last talk to have gone, please forgive me.

Things seem to be heading in a worse direction every single day, we are getting ready to step off on our first mission, I can't indulge in what it contains but, people will die, foe, friend, it doesn't matter, the loss of life in this war will be extravagant as it already has reached multiple boiling points. I know you are probably following along on the news. It doesn't tell the story of what truly is going on over here. I have faith in our militaristic might to defeat our enemy, but not until many more have to die. I don't know if my name will be on that list but there's always that chance that it might. If I don't make it home just know that my final thoughts will be of you, no matter what.

Words cannot truly describe my feelings that I have towards you, it sickens me that we must be separated for such a long period of time. I would much rather be back in that house, solving our problems, holding you until we lulled off into a peaceful sleep.  I promise that I will fight the hardest battles and the toughest wars to make it back into your arms one day, I can promise that. I love you with all of my heart and will find my way back to you in due time. Please tell everyone back home how much I miss them and will continue to miss them until I am back.

I will send another when I can, until then, know that I am always thinking about you. Until next time my dear.

Love yours truly,

Jolley

Dear Brother,

Today is the day, starting of my 3rd deployment against our nations enemies. Gone are the days of inexperience or uncertainty. Everything is deliberate. From moving cover to cover, speaking over the radio, raising my rifle, looking the enemy in the eyes and squeezing the trigger. Revenge was the name of the game today James. These bastards will continue to pay for what they did to you. I won't let happen to you happen to any of my guys around me. Today was only the beginning of this. I suspect the Russians will be wanting to get their land back in blood. This I will happily oblige them. I wish when I mail this out you would be able to read this and be proud of what we are doing here today. I know you are watching over us with your guidance and protection. I also know the good Lord above has a plan for us. I miss you and cannot wait until I meet you in Valhalla brother.

With love,
Your Brother
