OFFICIAL DEPLOYMENT ORDER: VIGILANT ECHO UNIT: 17th MEU / Maritime Special Purpose Force (MSPF) AO: KUNAR PROVINCE (THE BORDER HIGHLANDS) BACKSTORY: A LINE IN THE DUST The Siege: For the last 48 hours, the 2nd Battalion, 9th Marines have been the "Thin Blue Line" on the Iranian border. Following the outbreak of hostilities, they have been cut off at their Forward Operating Base (FOB) by a massive, asymmetric surge of IRGC-backed insurgents. The enemy didn't just attack; they strangled the valley. Using the jagged Kunar ridgelines, insurgent mortar teams and snipers have pinned the 2/9 inside their own wire. The base's flight line is "Red"—no birds can land, and no supplies can get in. The 2/9 is low on water, low on bandages, and down to their last crates of 5.56mm. The Stakes: This is an Official Relief Operation. The world is watching to see if the U.S. can protect its own. If the 2/9 falls, the border falls. The "Alamo" (FOB): Located in the valley. It is surrounded by stone walls that provide the insurgents with infinite cover for "Hit-and-Run" harassment. The High Ridges: The insurgents have established Observation Posts (OPs) on every major peak. They have "Eyes-On" the base 24/7. The "Green Zone" Chokepoint: The only road into the base runs through a dense thicket of trees and irrigation ditches.
